CANFELT ALONG
We are excited to bring you this new concept combining fun, mystery, some novel felting techniques and the opportunity to display your work in our first Textile Works Gallery exhibition for 2021. Here is a chance to try something a little different.
This is a fun opportunity to start a new felting project and to share your results with others. It will be enjoyable to see how each member has added their own creative style and personality to the same set of instructions.

How does it work?
Each week, for four weeks, you will be given clues for a step in making a mystery felt piece. It will be a wearable accessory. The Mystery Canfelt Along clues will include short videos demonstrating techniques and some written notes and photos. You will be able to ask questions if anything needs extra explaining. There are no set times. You can work on the project when it is convenient to you.
While these clues will take you through the overall process, there will also be the opportunity to use your own design creativity. This is not an exercise in everyone creating an identical item although there will be similarities.
Materials
After you register for the Mystery Canfelt Along, you will be given a materials list including some ideas for colour combinations. Many of the materials can probably be sourced from your stash. If you want to stock up early, the must have items are
- 2.5m x 40cm length of light weight silk gauze fabric (black or white)
- 100g fine merino wool tops (16-19.5 micron eg DHG, Kraftcolour, Nundle or Silksational) in a dark colour
- Silk and/or viscose fibres (at least 3 colours that are tonal variations and one contrasting colour).
Getting it finished
There will be an option for a making day at Textile Works in Chifley towards the end of the Mystery Canfelt Along to help you get your project finished in time for the exhibition.
Skill level
A basic knowledge of how felt is made is assumed. You will have this if you have done the equivalent of a beginning feltmaking workshop.
Registration
Registration is essential. Entry in the exhibition is included. This event is for CRF members only.
