Continuing our tradition of showcasing the work of our members in innovative ways, Rapt in Felt Expo is an opportunity to see unique and original handmade felt.

For two days we will transform a somewhat ordinary hall into a fun and creative space where you can see, buy and experience hand made felt in all its magic.

You can try your hand at felting a small item with our master felt makers. Workshop sessions run for one hour. No felt making experience needed but bookings are essential.

Flower brooch mini workshop (30 May 2026)

MINI WORKSHOP

It is impossible to make two identical flowers using wet felting. Discover with Jennie Curtis the magic of using soft wool fibre, water, soap and friction to make a flower that reflects your personality and style. You will choose the colours. The design will evolve as you felt and work in three dimensions. We will add a pin so that the flower can be worn as a brooch.

This mini workshop is designed for beginners but is fun for everyone.

It is running as part of the Rapt in Felt Expo. All the materials will be provided.

MINI WORKSHOP

Will this be your fishy tale?

Juliana Knight would love to assist you make a fun, colourful, frolicking fish. In this workshop you will learn the basics of wet felting. Be creative, show your family and friends what you can achieve with fine merino wool. Your completed fish can be used for a bookmark, attached to a key ring or that special festive tree decoration.

No prior experience is required. This workshop is suitable for both inexperienced and experienced participants.

It is running as part of the Rapt in Felt Expo. All the materials will be provided.

Flat Teddy in an Envelope mini workshop (31 May 2026)

MINI WORKSHOP

Juliana Knight loves cute and cuddly. Would you like to make a unique gift? You could even place a secret message inside the envelope. In this mini workshop you will be guided to make an envelope from a piece of felt that you make using wet felting techniques. First you will make the felt using merino wool fibres. Once your felt fabric is made you will use a template as a guide to cut out the envelope form. Holes will be punched to enable a ribbon to be threaded to secure the envelope. Participants will receive one pre-made teddy to add to their masterpiece.

This workshop will suit inexperienced and experienced participants.

Roll, Felt, Create! mini workshop (31 May 2026)

MINI WORKSHOP

Working with Annette Barberis and using nothing more than soft wool fibres, warm water and a touch of soap, you'll learn how to roll and shape beautiful felt balls from scratch. It's tactile, meditative and surprisingly addictive! Once you've mastered the technique, you'll thread your creations into a colourful keychain – perfect for your bag, your keys, your car or gifted to someone.

And the magic doesn't stop there. Your felt balls can even be used as aroma balls. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil and carry a little calm or joy wherever you go.

This mini workshop is for everyone: curious kids, creative teens, busy parents and anyone who has ever wanted to try something new with their hands. If you can roll a ball of dough, you can felt!

Ever wondered what felt is and how it is created?

Canberra Region Feltmakers offers workshops introducing those new to wet felting to the basic skills needed to start creating your own beautiful felt pieces.

In Basics and Beyond your tutor will guide you through techniques for laying out wool, wetting down, rolling, fulling, and most importantly, how to tell when your felt is fully felted. You will also explore a range of felting techniques to embellish (aka decorate) your flat felt.

After introducing you to the basic skills of felt making, your tutor will assist you to create a unique project to take home.

This workshop is run over two half days (attend both sessions).

We look forward to sharing the magic of felt making with you.

YOUR TUTOR: Lynn Petersen.

Lynn has been a feltmaker for 20 years. What she loves most about felt making is that it is a very forgiving art form and often surprises her with unexpected results.

Lynn has worked with a wide range of people to help them discover the joys of felt making: from classes with school groups, seminars at conferences, workshops for CraftACT and leading community felting projects to create large scale works.

Her current interests include exploring how felt making can intersect with other art forms to communicate ideas and connect communities. Her latest multi-arts project 'Small Blessings' held at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre (TAC) involved a great deal of community engagement whilst making felt. Her next community project to hit the streets, 'Words In The Wind' (supported by TAC), features the creative use of textiles to explore and communicate ideas about place.

Chook Teapot Cover

Spend a day making your own unique felted chook cover that will sit nicely over a small teapot. Expand your feltmaking skills by making colourful dry prefelts that you can add to your chook and use in many felting projects.

Tutor – Bernadette Sheahan

Bernadette grew up in a sheep farming community and loves all things wool. A keen knitter she was introduced to felting over a decade ago. The felting process connects her to the origins of wool and sheep. Bernadette is an active member of Canberra Region Feltmakers, having held numerous committee positions. A keen learner and supporter Bernadette participates in many felting

opportunities, including organising, facilitating and attending workshops.

Chooks Materials List

Resist material (e.g. floor underlay foam) – approximately 30x30cms
100 grams of merino wool in 2 colours, to enable different colours in inner and outer layers
50 grams of merino wool in several colours, including some black and white, this is to make your colourful prefelts
Prefelts: small amounts of red and orange
Premade prefelts and silk hankies to use for decoration
Small amounts of knitting wool for decoration (ensure it is not machine washable) as it needs to be able to felt into the wool.
2 small buttons will be needed (for the eyes), once your chook is felted
Felting materials
Two pieces of bubble wrap approximately 40x40cms each
Small pieces of painter’s plastic or thin plastic bags
Your usual felting gear
Scissors and a needle and thread
