Activity: Silk Dyeing

Come and learn how to make gorgeous coloured silk to use with your nuno felting projects and other garment applications. We will be colouring silk using Landscape dyes. Find out:

• how to use Shibori techniques to add patterns
• how to mix and apply dye
• how to use dye pots, microwave and steaming pots to set dyes

Instructions on how to use landscape dyes will be available and these dyes can be purchased from the shop to take home.

What to bring

• Silk fabric: There will be white silk fabric yardage and scarves suitable for nuno felting available for purchase from the shop. If you have washed silk fabric in your stash, either white or coloured (if you want to overdye it), you can bring that.
• Bucket
• Pegs
• Small sharp scissors
• Rubber or latex gloves
• Plastic table cloth (if you have one, some will be provided)
• Items for shibori eg. twine - cotton, jute, synthetic string or fishing braid are all good, marbles or glass pebbles (if you have them, some will be provided), bulldog clips/pegs
