WORKSHOP
In the workshop you will use almost felted prefelts or softly felted pieces to create free form cut away felt. You will cut and sculpt interesting shapes which can be appliquéd to stretch garments or can stand alone small artworks/adornments.
A follow-up workshop will introduce machine sewing. That workshop is listed separately.
OUR TUTOR
Chris White has a background in garment design and custom manufacturing in her small business. Follow her passion in this workshop, making cut-away felts to create new appliqué embellishments which can be added to existing stretch garments. This method can be extended to making borders, scarves, jewellery and trims.
Other information
Workshop level:
From advanced beginner. You should have done a beginners workshop before registering for this one.
Materials list
Felting kit for a small project.
Scissors, medium for general cutting and small scissors with a sharp point.
Practice pieces of felt for cutting from your stash. Roughly A4 in size, but odd shapes are also fun. An old piece of blanket or wool fabric is OK.
A piece of felt about 50cm x 50 cm to embellish a garment which can be knitted or woven or you can make a stand-alone collar, scarf or neck pieces.
Sewing machine in good working order, sewing equipment, thread in suitable colours for top stitching, and for hand stitching - thicker threads and suitable sewing needles.
Garment of choice for re-inventing, can be knitted or woven.
Chris will also have some stretch fabric to sell.
Layout
The layout starts with a medium thickness of dark contrast wool tops or prefelt. Second and third layers are of a design and colour suitable for your project, noting that coloured prefects work well. The almost completed felt needs to be a little spongy. After cutting and felting to finish the under colour will surround your cut work giving a profile to your design. You may have time for more than one project.
COVID plan: CRF has a COVID plan in place at the venue. If we are unable to run a face to face class due to sudden COVID lockdown, participants will be offered the alternative of an online workshop using Zoom.
Please remember to bring your lunch and own snacks.
