WORKSHOP
Fascinated by the thought of making your own felt hat?
In this one day workshop, you will create a small felt hat with a folded edge. You can choose to create a hat with a smooth crown or a hat that incorporates pleats.
Your tutor will guide you through the fundamentals of hat making including:
• laying out and felting a three-dimensional form
• learning how to block and shape wool felt
• moulding and creating pleats.

This natty little number makes a suitable base for a fascinator. You will have fun making decorations for your fascinator in a separate workshop.
There may be an opportunity for the finished fascinators to be used as props and be displayed in the Canberra Region Felters Fashion Parade to be held in June.
YOUR TUTOR: Liz Evans
Liz has worked in the textile arts for over 30 years, beginning as a hand embroiderer and then moving into machine embroidery, patchwork and quilting, custom design fashion and millinery. Felt has been her principal art medium since 1990 when she discovered and was fascinated by the versatility of and excited by the possibilities of this ancient technique.
Liz’s specialty for some years was millinery, both as fashion items and as wearable sculptured art pieces. More recently she has moved into more abstract hollow forms and wall pieces and is exploring basket making and weaving techniques to use alone or to adapt and combine with felt. Liz has tutored and exhibited for many years, has been an occasional contributor to Australian Felt magazine and is the author of three PDF books on feltmaking.
