Create your own felted picture of a flower in a vase

Create your own felted picture of a flower in a vase.
In this hands-on workshop your tutor will guide you through the process of making a felted picture in a fun and painterly way. You will be introduced to the basic concepts of creating a felt picture in a relaxed environment.
You get to choose your colour scheme and contribute to the design. which means that you get to take home a special piece that is unique to you.
At the end of the workshop, we will discuss ways that you can further embellish your picture.
This felted picture is made using both needle felting and wet felting techniques.
Skill Level - Intermediate
You should be comfortable making your own prefelt at home. You should also be confident with wet felting techniques, as you may need to complete some of the wet felting at home, if time runs out.
OUR TUTOR - Sharyn Steel
Sharyn Steel started felt making about 15 years ago and loves the tactile nature of this craft. She enjoys the versatility that felt making offers and in particular likes to explore ways to incorporate felting with her drawing practice. Her felted pictures have won awards at the Royal Canberra Show.
Sharyn has also worked professionally as a workplace trainer and facilitated many adult training sessions.

MATERIALS
- A piece of white prefelt* 40cm x 50cm
- 50g - White/natural undyed wool tops (21-22 micron preferred). This is in addition to any wool tops used for the making of your prefelt.
- 30g – Coloured wool tops for your flower. You will need two colours that sit next to each other of the colour wheel (For example, orange might be your primary colour with red as your secondary colour.)
Notes
- Avoid light pastel shades.
- Your primary colour should be a shade or two lighter than your secondary colour.
- Red - the colour in some reds tends to run, so it might be safer to use red as a secondary colour rather than the primary colour.
- 10-20g – coloured wool tops for the vase/pot.
- 10-20g – green wool tops for leaves and stem. You may want a mix of greens.
- 10-20g – black or dark charcoal wool tops (check your stash, if you don’t have black or charcoal a dark navy or really dark aubergine/purple may work)
